When to call concierge nursing instead of your primary care

A quick decision guide for situations where in-home nursing handles it faster, cheaper, and better than the doctor's office.

Concierge nursing isn't a replacement for your primary care physician. It's a different tool. Knowing when to use which one will save you time, money, and several frustrating phone calls.

When to call concierge nursing

Wound care after surgery. Drain monitoring, dressing changes, suture removal, signs-of-infection checks. Most surgeons want this watched daily for the first week, but the surgeon's office isn't where it should happen.

Medication management for complex regimens. A discharge with eight new prescriptions, three different timing schedules, and two PRN medications is a setup for errors. An RN in the house twice a day for the first week is the difference between a clean recovery and a re-admission.

Post-fall assessment and home safety review. After a fall, even a minor one, there's usually a few weeks of fear and instability. An RN can do a gait assessment, a home walk-through, recommend grab bars and lighting changes, and coordinate with the primary care physician without an office visit.

Postpartum support. Newborn vitals, maternal vitals and mood, feeding support, sleep coaching. The pediatrician handles the baby's wellness visits; the OB handles the six-week mom check. The gap in the middle, where most new families struggle hardest, is where concierge nursing fits.

Overnight attendance for an unstable family member. Not a crisis, but not safe alone overnight. A regular nursing agency books out four weeks in advance. We can usually start within 48 hours.

When to stay with primary care

Annual physicals, vaccines, screening labs. Insurance pays for these. Your PCP is the right call.

New symptoms that need diagnosis. We don't diagnose. We escalate to the right specialist or back to your PCP when something needs investigating.

Anything chronic that needs ongoing medication management at the prescribing level, diabetes, hypertension, thyroid. Your PCP or endocrinologist owns those decisions; we support whatever protocol they set.

The simplest filter: if it needs a doctor's diagnosis, call your doctor. If it needs a Registered Nurse in your home, call us.
